For the first time, the Pernambuco Civil Police has opened up the possibility that the attack on Fortaleza’s delegation bus may have been carried out by mistake.

According to information from journalist Daniel Leal, from ge, one line of investigation suggests that the bombs and stones thrown at the athletes’ bus could have actually been intended for fans of a Cearense organized group.

Ongoing investigation reveals new details

According to delegate Raul Carvalho, from the Police Station for Repression of Sports Intolerance, only the unfolding of the investigations will confirm whether the target was indeed the athletes or the fans.

However, the police ensure that, regardless of the target, the attack was premeditated.

“It was not an isolated action, but premeditated. The premeditation, which is one of the parts of the investigation to be clarified now, is: was the attack proposed to be carried out on the organized fans of Fortaleza, rivals of Torcida Jovem do Leão, or on the bus (with the players)? This is one of the elements that we need to clarify during the investigation.”

Main points revealed in the investigation

The Civil Police also revealed that, to reach the perpetrators of the crime, they used a video that circulated before the match between Sport x Fortaleza.

In it, members of the red-and-black organized fan group tried to attack a bus with members of Leões da TUF, precisely Fortaleza’s organized group. The police are investigating whether this group was the real target of the attack after the match.

“We collected images released before the game. We tried to identify a video that circulated of them planning an attack on Fortaleza’s organized fan group’s bus: ‘Where’s the bomb?’ Well, that was before, so there was already an intention to carry out an organized action,” said delegate Raul Carvalho.

Suspects arrested

Last Friday, March 15, the Pernambuco Civil Police launched an operation called “Hooligans,” with seven arrest warrants and seven home search and seizure warrants. Three people were arrested.

“Today was a start, other people will also be implicated. The investigation is complex and involves many people, but we are sure we will get there. We have already reached and will reach other people,” guaranteed Raul Carvalho.

The Civil Police continues to investigate the case, which occurred on February 22 at 2:21 am (as indicated in the Occurrence Report filed by Fortaleza), after the match between Sport and Fortaleza at Arena de Pernambuco when the bus of the Cearense delegation was ambushed, leaving six players injured.
