This Sunday, Flamengo added a historic rout against Vasco da Gama in the Brasileirão, a match in which the red-blacks defeated the cruzmaltino team by a resounding final score of 1-6.

After the match, a club director, the vice president of football, Marcos Braz, spoke about the future of a player who, allegedly, had already secured his transfer to English football: Fabrício Bruno.

Fabrício Bruno rejected the West Ham offer and will stay at Mengão

As reported at the time, and by various highly reliable sources such as Fabrizio Romano, the agreement between West Ham and Mengão for Fabrício Bruno was intended to be final, only lacking the agreement with the player, and it was precisely in this key phase of the operation where everything fell through, as Braz confirmed:

“Flamengo listened to his agents, who are the ones who look after Fabrício’s career, and they told us that the player was interested in going to England. We sat down, as we do with all players, Flamengo reached an agreement with the team, and then, at a later moment, there was no agreement between the club and the player,” said Marcos Braz, who did not hide his satisfaction at keeping Fabrício in his squad.

“This is something that rarely happens. Normally, when they go to talk to the club, the situation is already very advanced. It pleasantly surprised us (that the deal didn’t go through). The money was good, but I prefer to have Fabrício here. He has already been called up by the Seleção, he is already super adapted, everyone loves him and he is a very important player for us. This doesn’t change absolutely anything for us. We are very happy that he is staying.”

Initially, the deal between Fabrício Bruno and West Ham United fell through due to a disagreement regarding the salary the Brazilian would receive at the London club. The salary difference between what he currently earns and what was offered, coupled with the high cost of living in England, were decisive factors in this decision, according to the media outlet ESPN Brazil.

However, other media outlets claim that it is not ruled out that West Ham may present a final offer with better salary conditions in an attempt to tempt the defender.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
