CBF confirms resumption of the Brazilian Serie A in June; see the dates

The competition had been interrupted in rounds 7 and 8 due to the climatic tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul

On Tuesday night (21), the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) published an official statement confirming the resumption of the Brazilian Serie A Championship on the first weekend of June.

Rounds 7 and 8 of the Brasileirão were postponed due to the climatic tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul, after 15 Serie A clubs requested the competition to be postponed from CBF.

How will the resumption take place?

  • CBF scheduled the matches of the seventh round for the weekend of June 1st and 2nd, on the dates that would be for the ninth round;
  • The matches of the eighth round will take place on the base date of June 12, a Wednesday, already with the absences of players called up for their national teams;
  • The ninth round was scheduled for the weekend of June 15 and 16, rescheduled in about two weeks;

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) informs that due to the postponement of the 7th and 8th rounds of the Brazilian Men’s Football Championship – 2024, resulting from the events that unfortunately severely affected the state of Rio Grande do Sul, it became indispensable to rearrange the detailed schedule of games previously disclosed.

Thus, without prejudice to the decisions that will be taken at the Extraordinary Technical Council on May 27, 2024, CBF informs that the competition will resume from the 7th round, which will be played on June 1 and 2, dates originally reserved for the 9th round, thus preserving the technical planning that underpinned the preparation of the schedule.

The reprogramming of the previously disclosed 7th, 8th, and 9th rounds will follow the attached schedule.

Regarding the canceled matches of Gaúcho Clubs from previous rounds and other competitions organized by CBF, the entity reiterates that they will be rescheduled for future dates and according to availability on the calendar.
