After almost a year, Brazil and Jamaica will face each other again in two friendly matches. This Saturday (1), the Brazilian Guerreiras take the field at 5pm, at the Arena de Pernambuco, in São Lourenço da Mata (PE).

With over 30,000 tickets sold, the match will also mark a new attendance record for friendly matches of the Women’s National Team in Brazil. The team’s last home match was in November 2023, when the Brazilian Guerreiras faced Japan on two occasions and Nicaragua.

“Since we arrived here, we could really feel the energy of the crowd. When people who pass by us on the street say they will be present supporting us, it’s really nice. We like to feel this energy, that they are with us, that they are rooting for us, that they are supporting and trusting our work,” said midfielder Ana Vitória.

Brazil vs Jamaica History

The teams have faced each other three times before. The first was in 2007, in the group stage of the Pan-American Games, in which the National Team won 5-0. Then, in 2019, in the debut of the group stage of the World Cup in France, Brazil triumphed 3-0, with a hat-trick from Cristiane.

However, the last confrontation was at the 2023 World Cup, where Brazil and Jamaica played a goalless draw, which led to the early elimination of the National Team from the World Cup.

On Tuesday (4), the two National Teams will face each other again at Fonte Nova, in Salvador. The two friendlies will be the last tests before coach Arthur Elias announces the call-ups for the dispute of the Paris Olympics next month.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.
