Minecraft celebrates 15 years since its launch, a time that was enough for it to become the most successful video game in history with some 300 million copies sold in the world, surpassing current classics like GTA V and more retro ones like Tetris.

Some of the reasons for the success of the game born in Sweden is that it is suitable for all ages, encourages the creation of a community and not only serves to pass time: it is also used for educational, social and artistic purposes.

A global phenomenon, it was often merged with another planetary passion such as football. Based mainly on the search for resources and construction with bricks and blocks, users have used it, for example, to recreate several of the legendary Brazilian soccer stadiums.

The Arena do Grêmio, for example, was recreated to perfection and with details ranging from the seats, the ceiling, the lights, the entrance to the stadium and the locker rooms. The user who did it said that he demanded between 9 and 10 hours in a video uploaded to YouTube.

As it could not be otherwise, the Maracaná also has its Minecraft version. In fact, several players paid tribute to the Rio de Janeiro stadium, one of the few that can say that it hosted events such as the Olympic Games, World Cup, Confederations Cup, Copa América and Libertadores, among other important tournaments.

Remembering Zagallo

Sambafoot Series launched a new documentary about the football legend Zagallo. Known as ‘Velho Lobo‘ and as superstitious as it gets, Zagallo helped shape what Brazilian football is nowadays — as a player and as a coach.

Binge the first five episodes available on Sambafoot’s Youtube channel. Stay tuned for upcoming releases as we keep telling this legend’s life story.
