Brazil got off to a perfect start to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Pia Sundhage’s team claimed a commanding 4-0 victory over Panama thanks to a hat-trick from Ary Borges, who also provided an assist for Bia Zaneratto. Their win made a lot of noise around the world.
While Borges took much of the limelight for her fantastic performance, it was Zaneratto’s goal that went viral on the Internet. NFL star Patrick Mahomes, for instance, reacted to Brazil’s third goal on Twitter, where former USA Women’s international Carli Lloyd also showed her fascination.

Brazil forged a reputation in men’s football for being a team capable of putting on a show with their trademark ‘Jogo Bonito’ style, and now it looks like the women’s team is also honoring that football philosophy. The Seleção Feminina started the World Cup on the right foot and now hopes to build on this great win when they take on France on Saturday (29). Right now, Sundhage’s team is leading Group F standings with 3 points as Les Bleus drew with Jamaica.
