After playing every single minute in this Premier League season, Thiago Silva was rested for the match against Everton. While managing his workload was necessary, Chelsea missed the Brazilian’s presence on Sunday, as the Toffees claimed a 2-0 victory at Goodison Park.

On Wednesday, Silva made its 15th consecutive start in the Blues’ away loss against Manchester United. This time, the 39-year-old stayed on the bench as an unused substitute as Mauricio Pochettino sent in Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, Levi Colwill, Dorde Petrovic and Ian Maatsen.

What’s next for Silva, Chelsea

Silva is expected to return to the lineup on Saturday (16), when Chelsea welcome Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge on Matchday 17 of the 2023-24 Premier League. Right now, Pochettino’s men are 12th in the standings with 19 points, 14 shy of UEFA Champions League spots.

Chelsea come from a poor campaign that saw them miss European football, so their priority goal is to return to continental competition. Silva, however, could be on his final year at the club, as his contract is up in June 2024.
