Just six minutes into the first half, a chilling injury halted the match and left the crowd at The City Ground in silence. Brazilian midfielder Danilo, playing for Nottingham Forest, went in for a challenge against Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. As he fell, he landed awkwardly on his left foot, resulting in a severe ankle injury.

Danilo’s immediate cries of pain and his urgent request for medical assistance prompted the medical staff to rush onto the field. A screen was quickly put up to shield the scene from view, and after six minutes of treatment, the former Palmeiras player was stretchered off the field and taken to a hospital.

After the match, which ended in a 1-1 draw in the opening round of the Premier League, Nottingham Forest’s manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, provided the first update on the severity of the injury. “We know he’s undergoing tests, and we know it’s serious,” the Portuguese coach told the press.

“It was a very tough moment for everyone here—the fans, us. Danilo is very special to us, a special person. The way he works, always with a smile. We’re going to miss his quality, his talent, and what he brings to the team,” he added.

The club has yet to release an official statement, but journalist Bruno Andrade reported that Danilo is scheduled to undergo a “minor surgery” on his left ankle on Monday. “Fortunately, while the injury was initially feared to be severe, it’s less serious than first thought. The former Palmeiras player is expected to recover in 6 to 8 weeks,” Andrade shared on social media.
