It’s not everyday we see an opponent openly paying tribute to the other side or even a specific player. But we saw that following Sunday’s clash between Liverpool and Newcastle.
The Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker played a major role in the 2-1 win at St. James’ Park. Even with Virgil van Dijk sent off and Liverpool falling behind.
Darwin Nunez was the hero his side needed after scoring twice as a substitute. And there was another, Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian goalkeeper made incredible saves throughout the match to prevent Newcastle from scoring. The most memorable was a powerful shot from Miguel Almiron that hit the woodwork.
Just WOW, @Alissonbecker 👏 pic.twitter.com/YpNFEVk5pD

After the match, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe, while speaking to the media, said,
“Alisson’s save, for Almiron’s shot, was the best I’ve ever seen in my life.”
I guess it was for most of us too.
