Chelsea have once again suffered a dissapointing result this season when they lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough in the first leg of the EFL Cup semifinals. After the final whistle, Thiago Silva went to the away end as the traveling Blues fans were clearly upset by another frustrating defeat.
The Brazilian defender was there to recognize their support and effort for making all the way to Middlesbrough, but he was also seen holding a brief discussion with a fan near the bottom of the stand. The veteran center-back, however, high-fived another supporter, apologized and clapped as he went back to the tunnel.

“I am the first one to feel frustration for today’s result. But there is still the second leg and we will give everything to reach the final. We have to be together now more than ever. Thank you for being with us today,” Silva wrote on X (Twitter).
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the fans’ reception, but he denied they were furious at their own players. “Don’t be confused because the fans were reacting to Middlesbrough fans, they were fantastic with us. Thiago and some players, they were trying to calm our fans because I think it was a problem between the fans. Be careful how you translate to the media or our fans. Don’t confuse our fans.”
The Blues will have a shot at redemption on January 23, when they welcome Middlesbrough to Stamford Bridge in the return leg. But before that, they have to host Fulham on Saturday, Jan. 13, on Matchday 21 of the Premier League. Right now, Chelsea are 10th with 28 points, 12 shy of the top four.
