Léo Chú was the man of the weekend in the last Major League Soccer round. On Saturday, the Brazilian midfielder netted a double to help Seattle Sounders claim a hard-fought, 3-2 road win against the Vancouver Whitecaps and was selected as the Player of the Matchday 24.

Though he’s not a striker, the 23-year-old showed an impressive goal instinct at the BC Place, tapping home two loose balls after headers from Jackson Ragenis. His brace allowed his side claim all three points to continue in second place of the Western Conference standings.

Léo Chú in great form in 2023 MLS season

Chú is enjoying his best season in MLS since moving to Seattle in 2021. Not only does he boast a career-high 16 starts in 21 appearances, the Brazilian also has three goals and eight assists, tied for first at the Sounders and sixth in the league.

The Porto Alegre native started his career in Gremio, but made his professional debut while on loan at Ceará in 2020. The following year, the Tricolor sold him to the Sounders on a reported €2.13 million deal. The winger is under contract in Seattle until December 2024, but if he keeps up with this level, he’ll probably receive a contract extension offer at some point.
