The heated South American derby between Brazil and Argentina left a lot to talk about. One of the biggest talking points was the argument between Rodrygo and Lionel Messi before the kick-off. Though more than a week has passed since that episode, the Real Madrid winger was asked about it after his team’s victory over Napoli in the UEFA Champions League.
“I can’t talk about that, Madrid won’t let me,” said the former Santos player, laughing, via Marca. According to what could be seen from different cameras capturing the moment, the Brazilian allegedly called the Argentine players “cowards” for leaving the field. This may have unleashed the fury of Messi, who reminded Rodrygo that Argentina are the reigning world champions.

Rodrygo talks about his great moment
The season had not started well for Rodrygo, who went over a month without scoring after his goal against Athletic on the opening day of LaLiga. However, over time, he managed to find his best form and now is on a streak. “I can’t explain the change, but we have to keep working. I worked when things weren’t going well for me, and now that they’re going well, it’s the same. We have to keep working. I want to continue in the good streak and forget about what happened,” he said.
Just like last weekend against Cádiz, the number 11 scored a fantastic goal against Napoli to contribute to Real Madrid’s victory: “It was a great goal, after a move that I really like to make. It’s difficult to score more goals than Bellingham, but we don’t have a competition. What we both want is to help the team.”
