Real Madrid kicked off the 2024/25 season on a high note by defeating Atalanta to claim the UEFA Super Cup. This victory added yet another title to the collection of the Brazilian stars on the team, with Rodrygo Goes among them.

Speaking to Movistar Plus after the match in Warsaw, the former Santos player expressed his happiness with the achievement: “This is what we wanted—to start the season with titles. That gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season, which we know will be very long. I’m happy.”

Starting a new campaign with a trophy is always special, but Rodrygo warned the rest of Europe that Madrid will only get stronger as the season progresses: “We’ve had little time to train, but everyone is committed to being ready as soon as possible. We’ve trained well, we’re improving. We’re going to be much better throughout the rest of the season. The pitch was a bit dry, and in the second half, when it was more wet, it became a different game. We’re doing well. We’ll keep training to improve, and it’s a pleasure to be part of this team.”

The arrival of Mbappé

The victory was highlighted by Kylian Mbappé’s debut goal, the club’s marquee signing this summer. Despite the buzz around how his role might change with the Frenchman’s arrival, the Brazilian seems comfortable and happy with his new teammate.

“I think it’s the same as what I did with Vini and Jude,” Rodrygo said about their on-field chemistry. “Now we’ve added one more—one of the best in the world is with us now too. The coach asks us to switch positions a lot, not to stay static. They put us in one-on-one situations all over the pitch, so we had to move.”
