Robert Renan came up with a heroic moment on Saturday (15), when he scored the game-winning penalty for Zenit against CSKA Moscow in the Russian Super Cup. The 19-year-old went to the spot when the shootout was 4-4, and far from feeling the pressure, he secured his team’s victory with a successful panenka kick.
This is the third title for the Brazilian, who had already won the Russian Premier League and the South American U-20 Championship last season. The future looks bright for the young centre back, who will probably make Corinthians regret letting him go so soon.

Corinthians may have missed out on a great talent by parting with Robert Renan
Renan was forced to leave Timao early in his career due to the club’s need for a reliable striker. With just 13 games under his belt, the young defender was transferred to the Russian team as part of the deal that sent Yuri Alberto in the other direction. However, it didn’t take him long to prove his worth at his new club.

The Brazilian youngster settled in much better than expected to a new culture and league, quickly establishing himself in the starting eleven and making the top 100 of the Golden Boy nominees, being the only player from his country to make the cut. Renan already boasts two titles with Zenit, and at 19, there could be even bigger things for him on the horizon.
