The next step in Thiago Silva’s fantastic career is a mystery to everyone, including his coach at Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino. When asked about the defender’s situation, since the Brazilian’s deal is up in the summer, the Argentine couldn’t confirm or deny anything, stating that the player’s future is uncertain and it doesn’t depend on him but on the club and the center-back himself.

“We didn’t talk about the next season. This question is more for him than me. For him, it’s to keep fit. With his age, he is doing fantastic. We are so happy with him. Then future is about him and the club,” Pochettino said.

Poch is happy with Silva

Recently, Thiago Silva hinted at his current thoughts, stating that he is enjoying every game with Chelsea because he has “the feeling that everything is coming to an end,” words that were taken as the beginning of the end of the 39-year-old’s time with the London team.

Regarding this situation, Pochettino could only delegate the responsibilities for his continuity to Thiago himself and Chelsea’s front office.

With his statements, the Argentine coach made it clear he is delighted with Thiago Silva’s work this season and, if possible, would like to continue counting on him next year. However, everything will depend on the decision Thiago makes in these last months of his contract, and more importantly, whether Chelsea chooses to offer him another year of contract if Thiago decides to stay.

It’s still a bit soon to predict how this will end, and the only one likely to know what will happen is the player himself, who will probably make the decision once the season ends.
