Bruno Guimarães has been playing at an incredible level since he joined Newcastle in January 2022. The former Lyon star, who moved to the north of England for a reported €42 million, has played a pivotal role in the club’s resurgence, helping the Magpies avoid relegation in his first season before contributing in their top-four finish last term — which secured them a spot in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.

The Brazilian’s performances didn’t go unnoticed, witht the 25-year-old reportedly drawing interest from a number of European giants, including FC Barcelona. Therefore, Newcastle coach Eddie Howe made it clear he’d love Bruno to sign a new deal that makes him feel rewarded for his progress.

Eddie Howe hopes Bruno Guimarães signs long-term deal with Newcastle

“We’d love Bruno to extend his stay here for a long time,” Howe said, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano. “I’m not party to those talks every day, and there are talks ongoing — Bruno knows how we feel about him and I know he’s very happy here. We hope there is a solution to be found”.

Guimarães is not running out of contract anytime soon, with a deal that runs until June 2026. However, his evolution in England certainly makes the midfielder worth a raise, which is why Newcastle have to make sure they offer him a better salary before other teams do.

“There is no news. I want to stay, but the doubt is ongoing. So, let’s see,” the Brazilian had told journalist Lee Ryder in regard to new contract talks with the club. We’ll have to wait and see, but maybe the board takes note of Howe’s comments and hurry up to give Bruno a new deal.
