Bruno Guimarães has been at Newcastle for more than two years now, and it looks like his time at the St. James’ Park could come to an end soon. “Players like Bruno are not around every corner,” said the Magpies’ coach Eddie Howe, via The Guardian. “They are very, very rare. Bruno should be appreciated for everything he brings.”
The Brazilian midfielder is under contract until June 2028, but the club’s need to sell to comply with the Premier League profit and sustainability rules makes him a transfer candidate. At 26, Guimarães has caught the eye of several European giants since joining the English top-flight in January 2022.

“My intention would be to keep Bruno for as long as we possibly can because I can,” Howe said. “But I can never make guarantees because that would be absolutely foolish of me. I’ve been in football long enough to know you never know what is going to happen tomorrow. But he’s an integral part of the team and playing really well at the moment. A lot will depend on our ambitions and where the club is going in the foreseeable future. We need to show we’re moving forward.”

How much would a Guimarães move cost?
Newcastle forked out an astonishing €42 million to get the midfielder from Olympique Lyon in one of their first big signings since the Saudi takeover. The Rio de Janeiro native blossomed into one of the league’s best at his position, becoming a regular at the Brazilian national team.
His deal includes an impressive £100 million release clause, but that’s a number the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City (who’ve been linked with the player) can easily afford.
Only time will tell us whether Guimarães’ time at Newcastle ultimately ends this summer.
