West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Sunday brought bad news for David Moyes. Not only do they have to face the Championship team again, which makes their schedule even more packed, but they also suffered a huge blow with Lucas Paquetá being subbed off due to a calf injury.

The Brazilian is expected to be out for nearly two months, which would force the Hammers to change their transfer plans. According to The Guardian, the London-based team had no intention to stay busy in the winter transfer window, but Paquetá’s injury leaves Moyes short of options.

West Ham could be active in the market

Apart from Paquetá, Moyes will have to figure out how to overcome the absences of Michail Antonio (knee injury), Jarred Bowen (ankle injury), and Mohammed Kudus (AFCON participation). West Ham have little wiggle room to make signings this month, but it looks like they’ll have to get creative to overcome their injury crisis.

Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn and the Sunderland sensation Jack Clarke have been mentioned as potential targets, though it remains to be seen whether they can afford them and if these players can make the immediate impact the club needs.

Paquetá, meanwhile, is reportedly seeing a specialist to try and come back as soon as possible, but he’s likely to miss key fixtures including Premier League games against Manchester United and Arsenal.
