With the 2024 MLS season just around the corner, Inter Miami are reportedly looking to offload players to comply with the league’s salary cap rules. Therefore, Brazilian midfielder Gregore could be on his way out, as even coach Gerardo Martino confirmed negotiations between the South Florida team and Botafogo.

“There are chances. I don’t know if many or few, but there are chances that he’ll go to Botafogo,” Martino said following a 1-1 draw against Newell’s Old Boys in a friendly.

“It would be unwise to play him today. If the deal with Botafogo doesn’t go through, he will return to training as normal and will be considered for Wednesday’s match. If he does, we wish him all the best.”

Inter Miami need to offload players

A report by Tom Bogert of The Athletic claims that Inter Miami need to move players before their opening game against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday (21) in order to be roster compliant. Therefore, Gregore was mentioned among a group of players who could leave the club alongside fellow countryman Jean Mota, DeAndre Yedlin, Robert Taylor and Sergii Kryvstov.

Last year, the 29-year-old made $961,250. With the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, the club reportedly needs to accommodate its current budget to comply with the league’s rules.

After starting in four exhibition matches this year, Gregore didn’t take part in the last preseason friendly against Newell’s.

According to Globo Esporte, Botafogo are finalizing a deal to get the veteran midfielder for nearly $2.8 million. In fact, the Rio de Janeiro side has reportedly included Gregore in its Libertadores roster to have him available for the Second Phase tie against Aurora.
