André Jardine achieved the goal of delivering the league title in his first season with América, which is why all the Azulcrema fans are extremely grateful. One of them is Sergio ‘Checo’ Pérez, a Formula 1 driver for the Red Bull team, who showed up at the Azteca Stadium to watch the second leg of the 2023 Apertura final against Tigres, who were beaten 3-0 (4-1 overall).
“It’s great that it happened to you. Congratulations, you deserve it,” the Mexican told the Brazilian coach amid the celebrations on the field. “You have become part of América’s history,” Pérez added.

André Jardine fulfills a dream with América
“A dream come true,” Jardine said in regard to winning the Liga MX title at the helm of América. “I had the dream of working at a giant club like this, with fans like this… work hard to experience more nights like this. We have to be a team of our time, fight for everything we play, we have to be in finals, we can’t win them all, but we have to be in finals,” he added.
The 44-year-old also said this achievement feels just as good as his gold medal with Brazil in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. With this success, Jardine led the club to a long-awaited 14th star, which they had been waiting for five years. Besides, he got into every América fan’s heart – including that of ‘Checo’ Pérez.
