Antony’s last season with Manchester United left much to be desired, to the point that his name was linked to a possible transfer just over a year after joining the club.

However, the continuity of coach Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford seems to give the Brazilian a new opportunity to earn his place at the club.

In an interview with the Dutch outlet AD Sportwereld, the Red Devils’ manager ruled out a possible departure for the winger: “He (Antony) certainly showed that potential in the first month: he scored three times in the first three Premier League matches.”

“After that, it became more difficult, last season was not good. But I am still convinced that he has the potential to play for this club,” ten Hag added.

At the express request of the coach in his first season in charge of the club, United forked out €95 million to land Antony from Ajax, where ten Hag had previously coached him.

As he was the most expensive signing since his arrival and the player’s level was not as expected, the Dutchman was heavily criticized for the transfer fee.

“I do not exceed the budget. I have never had a budget. At United, the budgets are managed by the owners and the administration,” ten Hag said.

Antony, 24, contributed just three goals and two assists in 38 matches last season. With the coach’s confidence, the Brazilian will look to improve his image in Manchester.
