Manchester United are doing everything they can to get back to glory days. That plan started last season with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, who has been slowly making the necessary changes to make the Red Devils competitive again. Now, the Dutchman is preparing to name a new team captain after taking the armband away from Harry Maguire.
According to The Manchester Evening News, Casemiro could be on the shortlist to inherit that role ahead of the 2023-24 season. Even though the Brazilian has been at Old Trafford for only a year, it didn’t take him long to become a leader and get into fans’ hearts.

Even though Casemiro was extremely comfortable at Real Madrid, where he was part of a competitive team and already had five UEFA Champions League medals under his belt, the idea of helping United get back on their feet persuaded him enough to leave Spain. In fact, it was later revealed that the midfielder decided to join the English club after watching ten Hag’s side lose 4-0 to Brentford.
His committment was there from day one, and he quickly proved that on the pitch. Casemiro immediately bossed the middle of the park at Old Trafford, giving ten Hag much needed balance to display their offensive style of play without leaving their backline unprotected.

Casemiro’s experience and track of success certainly make him a realistic candidate to wear the captain’s armband, though United will have other options as well. Bruno Fernandes has been at the club for much longer and he already acted as captain while Maguire was out. Defenders Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez could also be in consideration, but only time will tell us.
