When Luis Suarez signed with Gremio after the Qatar 2022 World Cup, his initial idea was to play at least two seasons in Brazil. Or at least, that’s what his two-year contract suggested. However, the outlook changed when Lionel Messi decided to join MLS side Inter Miami.

Since the Argentine’s arrival in the United States, the Uruguayan forward has been constantly linked with a possible move to David Beckham’s team. Gremio didn’t allow him to leave this season, but the player agreed to terminate his contract in December, a year earlier than expected. This situation could finally allow “Lucho” to reunite with Messi in 2024, something that concerns New York Red Bulls forward Elias Manoel.

Elias Manoel is concerned about a possible Messi-Suarez duo in Miami

In an interview with Globo, the 21-year-old admitted that his team is “a little bit worried” about Suarez’s possible arrival in Florida, although he acknowledged that it would also be a pleasure to face so many superstars. “Facing a team with Messi, Suárez, Busquets, and Alba will be challenging, but it’s fantastic to know that we can play against great players on the world stage,” Manoel said.

He also commented on Messi’s impact on Major League Soccer and the overall growth of the league: “Messi’s arrival changed many things. The next World Cup will be here, and players are thinking about the possibility of coming here. Many say that the U.S. championship is not strong, it’s for those who are retiring or at the end of their careers, but I don’t believe it. It’s very good football, transitional, with many young players who stand out and move to Europe.”
