Douglas Luiz had a breakout year with Aston Villa this season. The 25-year-old proved to play an instrumental role in Unai Emery’s team, participating in all but one game for the Villans throughout the 2022-23 campaign. On top of that, he recorded a career-best six goals and six assists in 39 games across all competitions.

The Brazilian was rewarded for his fantastic level by being named the Supporters’ Player of the Season and the Player’s Player of the Season at his club. Luiz picked up both awards at Aston Villa’s End of Season Awards’ Dinner this week.

Aston Villa on the brink of securing European football

With one game left to conclude the 2022-23 campaign, Aston Villa could seal a place in next season’s UEFA Conference League against Brighton on Sunday. Since the Seagulls punched the last ticket to the Europa League, the best Emery’s men can aspire to is qualifying for the third continental tournament.

Villa are currently 7th in the Premier League table with 58 points, just one more than Tottenham and two above Brentford. All Matchday 38 games will be played simultaneously, so fans and coaching staff will probably keep an eye on the Spurs’ and Bees’ matches during their own game at Villa Park.
