André Jardine is having a great season in his first year at the helm of América. Apart from leading the 2023 Apertura standings, his team has won seven consecutive games, riding on a 15-game unbeaten streak. Julián Quiñones, who joined the club this season, is one of the Águilas’ standout players with six goals and five assists in 12 matches.

The Brazilian manager is fascinated by the striker’s performance, comparing him to other players he has previously coached. “Back when I was in Brazil, Quiñones resembles Matheus Cunha or Richarlison,” Jardine told TUDN.

Jardine’s Olympic gold with Brazil

If Jardine mentioned these Premier League stars, is because he knows them very well. The 44-year-old coach had previously managed both the Tottenham forward and the Wolves forward in the Brazilian U-23 national team. Together, they were part of the team that won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

That success was a significant step forward in each of their careers. Richarlison was able to further develop at Everton before moving to north London, while Cunha took a big step by leaving Hertha Berlin for Atlético Madrid in 2021 before joining his current club.

Jardine, on the other hand, took charge of Atlético de San Luis at the beginning of 2022. After three successful tournaments, he received an offer from América. His start at Estadio Azteca has been fantastic, and now he hopes to win another title.
