André Jardine was the architect of a brilliant regular season for América. In his first months with the club, the Brazilian led Las Águilas to the first place of the Apertura 2023 standings with 40 points. Although it wasn’t enough to break the points record in Liga MX, the Azulcrema boss believes that the most important part is yet to come.
“The points record, we pursued it at some point, it would be a mark to celebrate, but it would be a hidden celebration,” explained Jardine. “The main goal, we know what it is, it’s the championship. For me, it’s still a great campaign that deserves praise, but a new tournament begins, and we need to be aware of that.”

Jardine says América will be strong in the playoffs
Now that the regular season has come to an end, Jardine knows that a new story begins. His predecessors also had outstanding campaigns that were later overshadowed by a downfall in the playoffs, so the Brazilian understands the importance of the Liguilla.
“It’s not the same América as in previous tournaments. All teams seek improvement each tournament, and I feel that América continues to take steps forward; the team’s foundation remains intact. We’ve proven that we are strong in the league, and now, with direct rivals, I believe América will be very strong,” stated the 44-year-old coach.
