Sao Paulo FC, the famous Brazilian football club, recently took the Adidas brand to court after discovering a design flaw on the jerseys supplied by the company. The club claims the error violates its intellectual property rights and is seeking damages.
The error in question concerns the absence of the club’s main sponsor on the back of the third jersey, which was due to be launched tomorrow. When this jersey was presented, São Paulo FC immediately noticed this shortcoming and expressed their dissatisfaction to Adidas.

Adidas recognizes its mistake, but São Paulo FC demands more
According to the email exchanges revealed by the UOL, Adidas acknowledged the error, but the proposed solution was deemed unsatisfactory by the club. Indeed, Adidas wanted retailers to take charge of installing the sponsor’s logo, while São Paulo FC asked that this responsibility be taken care of by the supplier itself.
The court decision obtained by São Paulo FC forces Adidas to resolve this issue today (31), under penalty of a fine of R$50,000 per day. The club hopes to obtain satisfaction and be able to launch the corrected jersey as planned.
For its part, Adidas declared that it had immediately reacted upon discovering the absence of the sponsor on a limited series of jerseys. The brand is committed to guaranteeing sales in accordance with the model initially approved by the club and assures that it will make the jerseys available in accordance with the contract in force.
