Yuri Alberto scored a second half hattrick as Internacional trashed São Paulo 5-1 to overtake the hosts as league leaders on Wednesday night.
Colorado scored two first half goals in the first 25 minutes through Cuesta and Caio before Alberto completed the trashing by scoring three goals in the second half of the game. Luciano was on target for the home side as a mere consolation.
São Paulo were looking for their first win in five games, and started the game against Inter with so much hope and enthusiasm.
In a battle for the first place, Cuesta opened the scoring for Inter in the 8th minute before Caio Vidal doubled his team advantage after a wonderful display from the goalkeeper and a pin point pass from Alberto.
Tricolor pulled one back right before the break when Luciano headed in Reinaldo’s lofted header following a corner kick.
However, the second half would go on to be one to forget for São Paulo and one to remember for Yuri Alberto.
Yuri Alberto got on the score sheet after Volpi made a defensive blunder and gifted the visitors their third goal of the night. The forward scored his second of the night minutes later before making it three and 5-1 for the away side in the 68th minute.
Alberto scored a hattrick within seven minutes in the second half, and catapulted his side to the top of the table, going two points clear of São Paulo.
São Paulo who are still in search of their first win in four games will face Coritiba, on Saturday while new leaders Internacional will host Grêmio in a classic game on Sunday as they seek to retain their top spot.
