One of the six Corinthians athletes in the current Brazilian national team, Yasmim, 27, arrived at her first Olympics full of optimism. While preparing in Teresópolis, she emphasized the quality of the coaching staff’s work to strengthen the athletes’ physical, technical, tactical, and mental aspects for a competition featuring 12 strong teams, reflecting the balance of the tournament.
Yasmim participated in all six of the national team’s matches in the tournament. In the first match against Nigeria, she came on in the first half to replace Tamires, who was injured. In the third match, still in the group stage against Spain, she substituted Tamires in the second half. In the others, she was in the starting lineup.

Although she plays in a defensive position, Yasmim occasionally makes her mark in the Brazilian national team’s attack. She is well aware of this potential and works to improve it in training. In the recent CONCACAF Gold Cup held in the United States, she scored two goals: one in the victory over Argentina 5-1 in the quarterfinals, and another in the match where Brazil defeated Mexico 3-0 in the semifinals.
With this extra characteristic of being able to advance and finish, Yasmim becomes an additional concern for opponents when she is on the field.
Even when not in the box to finish a play, she actively participates in attacking plays when coach Arthur Elias opts for a more offensive formation. In the semifinal, Yasmim made the perfect pass for Gabi Portilho to score the second goal for Brazil in their 4-2 victory over Spain.
Yasmim began her professional career at São José EC in São José dos Campos-SP in 2014. Soon after, she started attending the Brazilian U-20 national team, with which she won the South American Championship in 2015. The following year, she competed in the U-20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea, where Brazil reached the quarterfinals.
In 2017, she was signed by Corinthians/Audax and within a few months, she became a Libertadores champion. A year later, after the partnership between the two clubs ended, Yasmim continued with Corinthians and began winning title after title. She was eventually named the best left-back in the Brasileirão in 2018.
Her performances gained international attention, and in 2019, Benfica signed her. In Portugal, she spent a year and a half, adding the Taça de Portugal and the National Second Division Championship to her collection of titles. In August 2020, she returned to Corinthians, where she would win three Libertadores, five Brasileiros, three State Championships, three Supercopa do Brasil titles, and one Copa Paulista.
