The last world title won by Brazilian players was in the memorable 2002 campaign, in South Korea and Japan. The team was full of stars and one of them played outside the field: Luiz Felipe Scolari, known as Felipão.

Commander of the fifth championship, he achieved the feat of leading the team to seven consecutive victories in the competition. In other words, Brazil won the World Cup with 100% success.

After that, Felipão led the team in another World Cup, the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, in which the team advanced to the semi-finals. He is currently the coach of Atlético-MG.

Little by little, he increased his collection of titles. So far, there are 27 in total. This list includes, in addition to the 2002 World Cup, two Libertadores (Grêmio and Palmeiras), two Brazilians (also for Grêmio and Palmeiras) and four Brazilian Cups (Criciúma, Grêmio and twice for Palmeiras), among others.

With the national team, he also won the Confederations Cup trophy in 2013. In his tours around the world, Felipão left his mark as a national champion for clubs in China and Kuwait. He also coached the Kuwait national team, with which he won the Gulf Cup, and Chelsea.

At the English club, he played a prominent role in 2008 when he helped Chelsea achieve a historic record of 11 consecutive victories away from home in the local championship (eight of them under his command).

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s history in football, however, began much earlier, in 1957. From then on, he played as a defender from the age of 19 to 33, with spells at Aymoré, Caxias, Novo Hamburgo and CSA, where he began his career as coach in 1982.

Born in Passo Fundo-RS on November 9, 1948, Felipão turns 75 this Thursday (9), a date to be celebrated by his relatives, friends and so many admirers of his unique career in football.
