With Miranda’s late goal, Brazil debuts with victory at the Pan American Games

The Brazilian National Team improved in the second half and won with a goal in the 87th minute of the match

The Brazilian National Team debuted this Monday (23) with victory at the Pan American Games. The team led by Ramon Menezes defeated the United States 1-0, at the Playa Ancha Stadium, in Valparaíso, Chile. Miranda scored the goal in the 42nd minute of the second half and secured the three points for Brazil.

The result leaves Ramon Menezes’ team in second place in Group A, behind Colombia, who beat Honduras 2-0.

The game

The first half was marked by the natural balance of the teams, with few chances on both sides.

At five minutes, striker Neri, from the United States, took advantage of an error in Brazil’s ball and risked a shot that was deflected by Michel.

Brazil grows in the match

In the 29th minute, Marquinhos took off along the baseline and passed it back to Matheus Nascimento, who tried to reach the ball, but the opposing defender made the cut, preventing Brazil’s very promising chance.

USA are dangerous

In the 40th minute, the United States reached the baseline and crossed into the middle of the area. Shirt 9 Ku-Di-Pietro attempted a shot that beat goalkeeper Mycael. But Arthur Chaves was there to cut the shot and prevent the opponents from scoring.

Pressure on the second half

After just six minutes, Marquinhos gave a good pass to Biro, who advanced into the area and shot hard from the left to save the goalkeeper. Marquinhos, Gabriel Pirani, Matheus Nascimento and Igor Jesus still tried to open the scoring for Brazil after the play.

At 15, Biro took a free kick to Michel. The defender headed into the area towards Matheus Nascimento, who deflected the ball for the archer’s great save. On the rebound, Arthur Chaves hit the post.

Almost there

Michel managed a deep throw to Miranda, who headed it to Kaio, free on the shot. The Coritiba striker’s shot went close to the post and scared the opponents.

Finally, the goal

With three minutes left in regulation time, Brazil’s pressure had an effect. After repeated attempts, Biro crossed the ball into the area. The ball reached Miranda, who headed it into the back of the net and ensured Brazil’s victory. The goal was the player’s first with the Brazilian team.

After the victory, Brazil returns to the field next Thursday (26), against Colombia, at 8 pm, at the Sausalito Stadium, in Viña del Mar, Chile.
