The matchups for the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana have been determined after the conclusion of the qualifying playoffs. Five Brazilian teams will be in this phase, including a direct clash between representatives of the country with the matchup between Red Bull Bragantino and Corinthians.

One of the last teams to secure a spot was Athletico Paranaense, champion in 2018 and 2021 of this tournament. They won 2-1 at home against Cerro Porteño (Paraguay) with goals from Gonzalo Mastriani and Tomás Cuello, making use of the 1-1 draw from the first leg in Asunción.

The team coached by Martín Varini will now face Belgrano (Argentina), one of the teams that qualified directly for the round of 16 by winning their group.

The two Brazilian teams eliminated in the playoffs were Inter, after losing their tie against Rosario Central (Argentina), and Cuiabá, which fell to Palestino (Chile). The latter team had managed a good 1-1 draw away but was defeated 2-1 at home and said goodbye to the tournament.

When are the round of 16 matches of the Copa Sudamericana?

Among the teams qualified for the next round, which will be played from August 13 to 22, the matchup between São Paulo teams Red Bull Bragantino and Corinthians stands out. Also noteworthy is the clash between Fortaleza, which is in great form, and Rosario Central.

Cruzeiro will face a tough challenge. They will play for a spot in the quarter-finals against Boca Juniors (Argentina), with the first leg at La Bombonera and the return leg in Belo Horizonte.
