The future of Cássio at Corinthians is shrouded in uncertainty, while the club anxiously awaits a response on the proposal to renew the contract until the end of 2025.

With the goalkeeper’s current contract expiring in December of this year, the Corinthians management has already started the conversations, but is still awaiting a definitive decision from the player.

Timão wants the goalkeeper at the club

  • Although Corinthians is interested in keeping Cássio for another season, the goalkeeper does not rule out the possibility of leaving the club before the end of the contract;
  • Especially during the mid-year transfer window. However, the player also considers the impact that this decision would have on his relationship with the fans;
  • From June, Cássio will be free to sign a pre-contract with other teams, and there is interest from Brazilian clubs in having his services.

From glory to chaos?

With a 12-year career dedicated to Corinthians, Cássio has an impressive record of 712 games for the club and nine important titles in his career.

However, this year, he lost his starting spot after expressing frustrations about the pressure for bad results.

Vision

For Corinthians, Cássio’s permanence is seen as a gradual transition to the rise of Carlos Miguel as the starter, in addition to enabling a proper farewell and recognition of the number 12 shirt’s legacy.

Other players who may leave

In addition to Cássio, two other key players in the Corinthians squad also have contracts about to expire.

The defensive midfielder Paulinho, at 35 years old, is in negotiations to renew at least until the end of the year, while the full-back Fagner, at 34 years old, faces a less likely renewal situation, subject to the player’s performance in the current season.

In the context of these negotiations, the fact that Cássio and Fagner are represented by Carlos Leite, who recently filed a lawsuit demanding debts from Corinthians, adds another element of complexity to the contract talks.
