On January 7 of this year it was announced that Dorival Júnior would be the new coach of the Brazilian National Team. However, this announcement did not come from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), but rather from the fact that until then it was the veteran coach’s club, São Paulo.

Several days have passed and his hiring is already a fact. However, the CBF has still not officially announced the coach’s arrival. Why does this happen?

Negotiations with Dorival Júnior are still ongoing and the official announcement would be made this week

According to ESPN Brasil, the CBF would still be in active negotiations with Dorival Júnior and therefore the agreement would not have yet been formally announced. What is agreed upon is his separation from São Paulo, which became effective from the day of the announcement, since the CBF had to pay close to 4.5 million reais to complete it.

However, the terms of his new contract with the CBF are still under discussion.

This, added to the paperwork and other bureaucratic issues, would be delaying an announcement that, barring a titanic surprise, would already be fully agreed upon and could be made official this Wednesday, 01/10. In principle, Dorival Júnior’s contract with the Seleção is scheduled to be signed for today.

However, ESPN assures that the official announcement could come before the weekend, since the date of its official presentation has not yet been agreed upon.

The CBF crisis would also be delaying the official announcement

Another key factor that would explain the delay in the announcement would be the current institutional crisis that the CBF is experiencing under the leadership of Ednaldo Rodrigues.

During the last few days, the CBF held meetings with Fifa, Conmebol and other international entities that seek to regularize the crisis that is currently being experienced in the offices. Once that is resolved, the focus will be on making Dorival’s arrival official.

Other media also claim that the absence of a Technical Coordinator would play a key role in the delay of the announcement. The CBF recently approached Filipe Luís, but the former player reportedly rejected the offer.
