The transfer market has closed in the UK, but it is still open in other leagues around the world. In this sense, and in a surprising move, São Paulo has advanced in negotiating the arrival of Jamal Lewis, a left-back who internationally represents Northern Ireland and whose rights currently belong to Newcastle.
The player has already arrived in Brazil, and according to sources on both sides of the Atlantic, the negotiation is almost finalized. He would arrive on loan, with an option to buy, although the details of the figures have not yet been disclosed.

Jamal Lewis is 26 years old and was developed at Luton Town, although he also had experiences in athletics, mainly as a sprinter in 800 and 1500-meter races. He then played for Norwich, with very good performances that earned him a spot on the radar of major Premier League clubs.
The British broadcaster BBC reported in August 2020 that Liverpool offered £10 million (a little over $13 million) for the defender, although that proposal was rejected. He eventually signed a five-year contract with Newcastle, although he never fully established himself.
In total, he has played 36 matches with the Magpies in all competitions since joining the team four years ago. With no place in the first team, he spent last season on loan at Watford in the Championship, the second division.
Although he was born in England, he was able to be called up by Northern Ireland because it is his mother’s nation. He played in the youth categories of that national team, and in March 2018, he was called up for the senior team for the first time.
