Oldest Clubs in Brazil

Sport Clube Rio Grande

The Gaúcho team was founded on July 19, 1900 in the city that gives its name to the club. The date of its foundation was chosen by the CBF as the “Football Day.” In fact, Vovô is one of the only clubs to win titles in all state divisions.

Ponte Preta

The Beloved Macaca was founded on August 11, 1900 by a group of students. One of the teams that has produced many stars for Brazilian football. It was the first club to have a black player, playing a crucial role in the fight against racism.

Fluminense

The current Copa Libertadores champion was founded on July 21, 1902. Fluminense is among the “Big Four” of Rio de Janeiro. In their trophy cabinet, there are several important titles such as state championships, Brasileirão, and the continental competition itself.

Vitória

The team was founded on May 13, 1899 under the name Club de Cricket Victoria. It was the first national social club founded only by Brazilians. Vitória is the current champion of the Brazilian Serie B.

Grêmio

The Immortal was founded in Porto Alegre on September 15, 1903 by Cândido Dias da Silva. Their trophy cabinet includes several titles of great importance for football, with the main ones being Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup.

Botafogo

The club, which has provided the most players for the Brazilian National Team in official and unofficial matches, including the World Cup, and has stars like Garrincha in its history, emerged as Botafogo Football Club on August 12, 1904.
