Elimination

  • Brazil was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Copa América;
  • With the draw in regular time, the decision of the spot went to penalties;
  • The Uruguayans got the better of the Brazilians, 4-2.

Militão and Douglas Luiz…

During the penalty shootout, Andreas Pereira and Martinelli scored for Brazil. But Militão had his shot saved by Rochet, and Douglas Luiz hit the post.

For Uruguay, Valverde, Bentancur, Arrascaeta and Ugarte converted their kicks, while Giménez saw his shot saved by Alisson.

Highlights of Uruguay vs Brazil:

The first half of the game was fiercely contested, with many fouls and little football. Uruguay’s best chance came from a cross that Darwin Núñez headed over the goal. For Brazil, Raphinha had his shot saved by Rochet after a quick counterattack.

In the second half, the game continued with little creation of plays. In the 28th minute, Uruguay’s Nández received a straight red card for a hard tackle on Rodrygo. From that moment on, the Uruguayan team practically stopped attacking, but even so Brazil could not break through the defense.

Upcoming commitments

With the elimination in the quarterfinals of the Copa América, the Brazilian National Team returns to the field in September, for the World Cup Qualifiers, against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Uruguay, on the other hand, faces Colombia in the semifinals, on Wednesday (10th), at 9pm (Brasilia time), at the Bank of America Stadium, in North Carolina, United States.
