A new round of the Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana has passed, so both competitions are approaching their most decisive instances. The round of 16 is already part of the past and the road to the finals is beginning to take shape. As expected, Brazil will be represented by several teams in the two tournaments.

The Brazilians who are still standing in the Libertadores

Of the six Brazilian teams that made it past the group stage, only four are still alive. Flamengo, defending champion, was eliminated by Olimpia in Paraguay, while Athletico Paranaense (finalist in 2022) fell on penalties against Bolívar in Curitiba.

Fluminense defeated Argentinos Juniors at the Maracana, Internacional beat River Plate from twelve steps and Palmeiras left Atlético Mineiro on the road. Now, demanding crosses await them in the quarterfinals, which will begin the week of August 22. The rematch of each series will be the following week.

In the South American, five of the seven Brazilian participants in the round of 16 went to the next instance. Goiás was beaten by Estudiantes de La Plata, while Bragantino said goodbye after losing on penalties against América Mineiro.
Fortaleza prevailed against Libertad, Corinthians left Newell’s behind, Botafogo crossed out Guarani and San Pablo defeated San Lorenzo at Morumbi. The dates for the quarterfinals of Sudamericana will be the same as those of the Libertadores.
