Fluminense won their first South American Supercup against Liga de Quito, solidifying the dominance of Brazilian teams as the most successful in this competition that brings together the champions of the main club tournaments in South America.
Brazilian teams have lifted this title 13 times, contested every year since 1989, except for the period 1999-2002 when it was not organized. In second place are Argentine clubs, victorious on 10 occasions, followed by Ecuadorian clubs with three titles.

Individually, the most successful team in the South American Supercup is Argentina’s Boca Juniors, with four titles, followed by their classic rival River Plate with three. Additionally, five clubs have won it twice: São Paulo, Internacional, and Grêmio from Brazil, Liga de Quito from Ecuador, and Olimpia from Paraguay.
The teams with the poorest record in this competition are Argentina’s San Lorenzo and Brazil’s Athletico Paranaense, who reached the final on two occasions but were defeated both times by their opponents.
Fluminense’s victory in the latest edition was a form of redemption on one hand, after defeating the Ecuadorian team that had beaten them in the finals of the 2008 Libertadores and the 2009 Sudamericana. On the other hand, it was payback for what happened last year when teams from the same country faced each other, but then it was Independiente del Valle who celebrated victory over Flamengo.
