Palmeiras wrapped up their first win in the Brazilian Championship against Chapecoense in just the first half.
Verdao played a quick game and exploited Chapecoense’s flaws to win 3-1 in the second round at Allianz Parque on Sunday.
Luiz Adriano broke the deadlock in the 15th before Wesley bagged a brace in the 7th and 42nd minutes,, Busanello grabbed a consolation goal for the newly promoted side ten minutes into the second half.
After a scare early on after Jailson saved Fabinho’s shot, Palmeiras took control and went up three nil in the first half.
Laércio misjudged a cross in the seventh minute, handing the ball to Wesley, who doubled the hosts’ lead. The second goal followed eight minutes later, but it was only confirmed by referee Leo Simo de Holanda in the 22nd minute following a VAR check.
Following the second goal, Ron and Gustavo Scarpa each had two more chances to extend the lead, but they both missed their efforts.
Verdao scored the game’s third goal in the 43rd minute, putting the game out of reach. After a fantastic assist from Gustavo Scarpa, Wesley got his second of the game, putting his team in a commanding lead at halftime.
Chapecoense improved after the interval and began to cause more issues for Palmeiras in attack. After ten minutes, Busanello pulled one back with a spectacular free kick. After that, Matheus Ribeiro and Anselmo Ramon both tried but failed to find the target.
Palmeiras were able to calm down and take control of the game, resulting in a 3-1 victory.
The home side were able to win at home after losing their opening fixture to Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, when they meet CRB in their Copa do Brasil third-phase match on Wednesday, they must sustain their momentum.
Chapecoense, on the other hand, will be looking to win in the Copa do Brasil when they face ABC in Natal on Wednesday.
