Midfielder Vini Souza has already shown he is ready for the 2024/25 season. In the opening of the Championship, the second division of English football, the Brazilian led Sheffield United to a 2-0 victory over Preston away from home, with goals from Oliver Luke Arblaster and Gustavo Hamer. The recognition came from the fans themselves, who voted on the club’s social media, naming him the best player on the field.

“I’m very happy to have helped Sheffield start the competition with a win. A good debut is always important, especially away from home. I took good care of myself during the holidays and was able to complete the entire preseason with my teammates. The work in these first weeks has been very intense, and all this effort paid off because we played a very good game with a strong rhythm,” he stated.

“Regarding the best player nomination, I can only thank because it shows that people appreciate and recognize the work I’ve been doing. I’m happy with the fans’ recognition and will continue to dedicate myself fully to help the team both on and off the field,” he said.

Vini Souza had already been one of the main highlights of the team in the 2023/24 Premier League. Despite the relegation, he drew attention for his high number of tackles, duels won, and passing accuracy, attracting interest from various European clubs that are keeping an eye on the Brazilian. His contract with Sheffield United runs until June 2027.

In the Belgian second division, the Brazilian quickly stood out. He played 19 matches, 17 of them as a starter, and was nominated for the national competition’s player of the year award during the campaign of third-placed Lommel.

In the following season, the midfielder was loaned to Mechelen, which was competing in the Belgian top division. Once again, he continued to deliver great performances and draw significant attention. He played 35 times, scored two goals, provided one assist, and continued to make important strides in his career.

In the 2022/23 season, he was loaned to Espanyol to compete in La Liga. Despite the club’s inconsistent campaign, the Brazilian was the team’s leader in tackles. He played 37 matches, 29 of them as a starter, scored one goal, and contributed with one assist.

For Sheffield United, Vini Souza has already played 39 matches, 30 of them as a starter, and scored one goal.
