Valencia denied Vinicius Junior’s version in his judicial statement regarding the case of racism suffered at the Mestalla Stadium on May 21, when Real Madrid faced the “Chés” for LaLiga. The Brazilian, a victim of discrimination that afternoon, assured that there were racial insults from the local fans in general.

The 23-year-old player felt that the cries of “monkey” came from a large part of the stands, while the rival club maintains that this inappropriate behavior cannot be attributed to the majority. In his statement they even mention that Carlo Ancelotti, coach of “merengue”, had the same confusion after the game, declaring at a press conference that “the entire stadium” discriminated against his player. Two days later, the Italian found out that in Valencia they asked for it to be rectified, and he acknowledged that he understood “monkey” when what they were shouting was “dumb.” Now, the “Murciélago” board expects a similar clarification from Vinicius

The Valencia statement

“Given the information published regarding the alleged statement given in court by the footballer Vinícius Jr. stating that the entire Mestalla stadium hurled racist insults at him in the match between Valencia CF and Real Madrid CF last season, the Club wishes to express its surprise, rejection and indignation.

As coach Carlo Ancelotti himself publicly acknowledged, in no case can the behavior be generalized to the entire Mestalla stadium.

The Club is fully aware of the seriousness of this matter. Racism has no place in football or in society, but it cannot be fought with fallacies or unfounded lies. This issue requires the involvement of everyone and Valencia CF understands that it must be scrupulously precise and responsible in this type of demonstrations.

“The Valencian fans cannot be classified as racist and Valencia CF demands that Vinicius Jr. publicly rectify his alleged statement this morning.”
