Goalkeeper Mycael is one of the athletes most called up by Ramon Menezes and had his name called for the Pan American Games in Santiago, which will open on Friday (20). The team’s debut in Chile will be on Monday (23). He was with the coach in winning the South American Under-20 Championship in February, in addition to being called up to the Brazilian Main Team in March, when they faced Morocco.

Mycael made a point of thanking Ramon for the opportunity and believes in the team’s good preparation in search of the fifth gold medal at the Pan American Games.

“First of all, I want to thank God for being here again serving on the Brazilian team. Always an honor, a gratitude. I’ve been working with Ramon for a while now, he has my trust. We competed in the South American Championship and the World Cup recently. He gave me the privilege of realizing my dream of being in the Main Team. And we are working very well every day here at Granja to arrive very well prepared at the Pan”, he said.

Brazil has four gold medals at the Pan American Games (1963, 1975, 1979 and 1987), and the last time the national team reached the podium was in 2015 with the bronze medal. Mycael recognizes the difficulty of competition,

“We know how difficult the championship is, that it’s been so long since Brazil has been on the podium. We’re going to work hard every day to achieve our goals,” he stated.

Born in Porto Velho (RO), the Athletico Paranaense goalkeeper’s successful career with Amarelinha began in 2019, with the South American Under-15 title. In the final against Argentina, Mycael saved a penalty kick in the penalty shootout and was a key player in the victory. With this CV, he seeks to transmit what he knows about the environment to the younger players in the team.

“I have a great history here in the national team since I was under-15. I got my second South American title this year with the  under-20 squad. To add to this experience I have, (I try) to share it because there are several young boys, playing for the first an international competition. And being able to share this experience so that our team can perform very well.

The Pan-American Team delegation embarks this Wednesday (18) to compete in the competition in Chile. Viña del Mar will be Amarelinha’s base throughout the tournament.

Brazil’s debut is scheduled for next Monday (23) against the United States, in Valparaíso, at 2 pm. On the 26th, the team returns to the field against Colombia, in Viña del Mar, at 4pm. Brazil’s last match in the group stage takes place on the 29th, at 7pm, against Honduras, in Sausalito.
