Two second half Claudinho penalty goals gifted Bragantino a 2-1 victory against Ceará on Sunday. In fact, all the goals scored in the match all came from the spot.
The first half was a balanced game between Ceará and Bragantino. Both sides didn’t create or threaten each other’s goal area much. The first chance for Bragantino came via Edimar but Richard was on par with his effort on goal. Tiago also came close in the 24th minute but his effort hit the crossbar. Not long later, Richard saved another effort from the visitors as the match was edging closer to the break following a corner kick situation.
However, the second half would go on to be a ‘spot-kick affair. Ceará’s Bruno Pacheco brought Artur down in the goal area, conceding a penalty. Claudinho took the spot kick and gave his side the lead in the 56th minute.
Ceará responded immediately after they went a goal down but Léo Chú’s effort was wide. Luiz Otávio was then pulled down in the 18-yard box by Ricardo Ryller following a corner and Ceará were awarded a penalty of their own after a VAR review. Lima made no mistake from the spot and leveled matters in the 63rd minute.
Bragantino continued to press for the winner and had some chances saved by both the defenders and the Ceará goalie. Ceará themselves had some couple of great chances to get the winner but they were ineffective in front of goal.
At extra time, William Oliveira handled the ball in the box and Bragantino were awarded another penalty after a review from the VAR. Once again, Claudinho converted, getting his second goal of the night and the winner for his side.
Both sides return to the field in midweek as Bragantino hosts Vasco on Wednesday and Ceará visits Goiás on Thursday.
