The 25-year-old will cost Tottenham just £2.7million in loan fees, with an option to make the deal permanent for £38.2million next summer.
Vinicius becomes Tottenham’s sixth high-profile signing of the transfer window and, importantly, finally ends Jose Mourinho’s search for an alternative to Harry Kane. He will wear the no.45 shirt at the club.
Benfica already announced that a deal had been reached late on Thursday evening and the forward has now both completed his medical and obtained a work permit.
Mourinho has repeatedly talked of his side’s need for a back-up to Kane
having been unable to sign a forward in January, with Tottenham finally filling the spot left by Fernando Llorente, who departed last summer.
Mourinho has now landed his number one striker target, who Tottenham have held an interest in for much of the summer.
The forward proved ruthless up top for Benfica last season, scoring 18 goals in 32 league games, while also providing eight assists.
Vinicius will join a highly-exciting front line, which has already been bolstered by the emotional return of Gareth Bale seven years after he left for Real Madrid.

Having progressed to the Europa League group stages, while also reaching the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, Vinicius will significantly reduce the burden on Kane, with Tottenham competing in four competitions.
He follows Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Matt Doherty, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart to north London as Mourinho reshapes his squad.
Spurs fans may be hoping Vinicius can follow in the footsteps of Raul Jimenez, who has shone in the Premier League since joining Wolves from Benfica in 2018.
