Thiago Silva was on target for Chelsea on Monday night as the Blues ended recent mini-slump by beating West Ham United at Stamford Bridge to move up to fifth in the Premier League.
Tammy Abraham’s brace in the second half sealed the victory after Chelsea’s consecutive defeat to Everton and Wolves ended their unbeaten run.
Timo Werner wasted a couple of chances in the game to extend the hosts advantage but he still played his part in his side’s second in the 78th minute as his scuffed shot was turned in by Abraham.
The striker who replaced Giroud in the starting eleven then added another seconds later at close range when Christian Pulisic missed a header from a Mason Mount cross.
The score line didn’t speak well of the game. West Ham didn’t get a shot on target but they controlled the game a good number of times.
Thiago Silva helped his side relieve some steam in the early stages of the game, with a header in the 10th minutes. But their play soon became scrappy and West Ham took control instead.
It was a much-needed victory for Frank Lampard’s team, with Timo Werner’s form the only disappointing downside so far. The German striker hasn’t found the net in his last 9 games in all competitions for the Blues.
Chelsea returned to winning ways at the right time. Up next for Frank Lampard and company is a London Derby at the Emirates on Saturday against Arsenal before they host Aston villa 48 hours later.
