At 39 years old, Thiago Silva is the oldest player in the Premier League this season. However, age does not seem to be a factor in decline for the Brazilian, who remains at the height of such a demanding competition. In fact, his great performance so far this season earned him a standing ovation in Chelsea’s recent draw against Arsenal (2-2).
The veteran central marker is still in great shape for the “Blues”, a club in which he became an immediate reference after his arrival in 2020, after several years with Paris Saint-Germain. His great presence is reflected in the numbers, as he leads the English team’s statistics in the following categories:
- Player with the most minutes: 810 (the nine games completed)
- Player with the most touches: 848
- Player with the most successful passes: 732 (of which 24 were backwards)
- Player with most cleared balls: 40
- Player with most blocked shots: 8

Thiago Silva attributes his good level to the care of his body
“It is public knowledge that all the care I put into my career is due to the passion I have for playing football and this is helping me to continue enjoying what I love to do in high performance, consequently with a good number of games and minutes on the field,” said the defender in an interview with the Esporte Espetacular program.
At home, the former Seleção captain has equipment focused on his physical recovery after training and matches, as well as for the treatment of injuries. Although he knows that the years take their toll, he tries to cope with it in the best way possible.
“It’s not easy to be at a high level, especially when it comes to the Premier League. Age really weighs a bit, but the experience gained over the years makes up for it.”
The Brazilian is in the last year of his contract with Chelsea, so there is speculation about a hypothetical return to Fluminense. However, he is still not sure what he will do in 2024.
