The future of Thiago Silva generates expectations in Rio de Janeiro. Well, at 39 years old, the Brazilian defender entered the last season of his contract with Chelsea, which expires in June 2024. Will he return to his homeland after so much time in Europe? The Seleção emblem still does not know whether to return to Fluminense, but he hinted that the possibility exists.

“It’s a long-standing relationship, right? But now I prefer to remain silent. I have a family, I have children, so we have to think about that too. It’s about seeing where to finish this beautiful career,” he told TNT when asked about a possible return to the club where he made his first steps.

Is it time to return to Rio?

Emerging from the Flu academy, Silva toured several clubs early in his career: he went through RS Futebol Clube, Juventude, Porto and Dinamo Moscow until he returned to Tricolor in 2006. He immediately established himself as a key piece of the defense and contributed to winning the 2007 Brazilian Cup. The following year, he helped the team play in the final of the Copa Libertadores, where they lost to LDU.

His high level aroused the interest of Milan, which paid 10 million euros to retain his services in 2009. From there, Silva built a magnificent career in the Old Continent. He was champion in Italy with the Rossoneri, won countless titles with PSG in France and triumphed with Chelsea in England in the Champions League, Club World Cup and European Super Cup.

With such a journey, next year may be the time to return home.
