Abel Ferreira renewed his contract with Palmeiras until December 2025. Since his arrival at the São Paulo-based club in November 2020, the Portuguese coach has won nine titles, including two Copa Libertadores (2020 and 2021), two Brasileiraos (2022 and 2023), and one Copa do Brasil (2020).

The coach is only one conquest away from equaling the record of Oswaldo Brandão as the club’s most successful manager. This contract extension, which was initially set to expire in December of this year, gives him ample time to reach and even surpass that milestone.

In a short time, on February 4th, he will have the opportunity to equal the milestone with the match between Verdão and São Paulo for the Supercopa do Brasil. This clash, to be held at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, pits the winner of the Brasileirao against the winner of the Copa do Brasil.

A couple of weeks earlier, on the 21st of this month, Palmeiras begins their journey in the Campeonato Paulista against Grêmio Novorizontino. In mid-April, they will begin their quest for a third consecutive Brasileirão title.

The contract extension was confirmed last Tuesday by the club’s president, Leila Pereira, in an exclusive press conference for female journalists. “It was a great desire of mine to keep such a successful coach who has been with us for so long,” she said.

The club’s leadership had been working in recent days to renew his contract, and the official confirmation for another year put an end to rumors that had Ferreira moving to Saudi Arabia in exchange for a lucrative contract.
