Luis Suárez enjoys a great presence in Brazil, at least on an individual level. Since his arrival at Gremio at the beginning of the year, the 36-year-old veteran center forward has accumulated 18 goals in 42 games in all competitions. In 22 games in the Brasileirao, he has nine goals and six assists.

However, Marcelo Bielsa has not taken it into account since he took the reins of the Uruguayan team. The Argentine coach left “Lucho” out of the double date of the South American Qualifiers in September and ignored him again for the international break in October, in which the Celeste will face Colombia and Brazil. Alberto Guerra, president of the Porto Alegre team, admitted to being surprised by this situation.

Suárez’s non-callup surprises Gremio

“It is not a question for me or for Gremio, it should be asked of Marcelo Bielsa, who is the one who does not call him up. But it is impressive how Suárez is playing, how he makes a difference at 36 years old, and I am surprised that he was not called up,” Guerra said at a press conference.

Furthermore, he maintained that, in his opinion, the Uruguayan is the best forward on the continent at present: “I repeat, it is a question for the coach of the Uruguayan National Team, who may be renewing, working in the long term, although today I really don’t see a better attacking center than Suárez in South America.”
